This individual will be responsible for all the tasks involved in extracting, transforming and loading data into the warehouse. The ETL Developer will focus on designing and integrating the ETL components and resolving data centric issues and must be able to assist in the data analysis efforts necessary to resolve the data issues encountered. The incumbent will develop detail ETL specifications based on business requirements and form ETL and data integration strategies.
Will participate in the development cycle including analysis, design, build and test following ETL standards and architecture; assist in the design of the ETL application. Assist in the data analysis effort necessary to resolve issues uncovered relating to source data, this will be accomplished by participating in ETL activities as an advocate, consultant, and implementer. Assist in the development of and execute system and integration test plans and document results and discrepancies.
The ETL Developer will also assist in developing, implementing, and continuously updating 'best practices' and standards. The primary responsibility of an ETL Developer is to develop, test and implement ETL programs/code that will be used to load the data warehouses, data marts and data extracts.
The ETL Developer will work with the assigned Business Data Analysts to understand and validate requirements and to test and validate the processing of his/her ETL code.
The ETL Developer will develop the required execution processing logic (workflows, control logic, parameters, etc.) and production jobs that will be used to execute the ETL process in production and will work with CIS Operational areas and his/her teammates to implement these jobs into production. It is the ETL Developers responsibility to thoroughly understand all ETL and CIS standards and procedures that are applicable to his/her work and to apply those standards and procedures as required. This includes development of complete and thorough test plans, adherence to ETL naming standards and guidelines and addressing all required ETL/program design & code walk-thrus.
The ETL Developer must also continue to develop his/her knowledge and expertise in the use of the technical tools and facilities that can/will be used to support his/her development efforts. This will be done through hands-on experience and self-learning and through informal/formal training.
The ETL Developer will be responsible for on-going support of the production data warehouse jobs and will be required to respond promptly during off-hours to address production problems when called upon. The ETL Developer will communicate with the DAT Mgr to provide accurate and timely status of his/her assignments and to provide information/status on any major issues encountered on these assignments. Readily understands requirements and develops and implements ETL programs/logic that meets all the defined requirements. Effectively uses the available ETL/development tools and programming languages to develop his/her ETL code, to test & debug the code on a timely basis and to develop code that executes efficiently with no logic errors. Insures that all ETL program code/logic, etc. he/she develops meets all applicable coding standards and is developed, tested and implemented according to all ETL and CIS standards and procedures. Performs all administrative responsibilities as required on a timely basis. This includes weekly time and status reporting, meeting attendance and any other administrative responsibilities as defined by the Manager, the dept or the corporation.
Experience: Required Skills
BS or BA in Computer Science or related field, or minimum of 5 years equivalent work experience.
Technical skills include UNIX (AIX preferred), Informatica (will accept DataStage), full SDLC exposure, DB2.
Knowledge and skills in the following areas as demonstrated by a minimum of 2 years of actual job experience:
General knowledge and understanding off all components of warehousing architecture, especially data architecture and relational data base concepts
Expertise in using ETL Tools and applying sound ETL principles
Expertise in programming, testing/debugging and implementation
Thorough knowledge of source data and the associated business rules
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
Ability to work well with others within all organizational hierarchies
