Description: Senior Systems Administrator for a contract to hire opportunity in Ardsley, NY. This position requires hands on knowledge of operating systems and server technologies; LAN networking and devices; must have a thorough knowledge of industry hardware types and interoperability; basic understanding of application software is necessary. Person in this senior role provides feedback, suggestions and guidance to system administrators located at other sites. Person in position must be proactive in notifying colleagues about patches and updates, testing and sharing results. Must comprehend legacy, current and emerging technologies and possess the ability to articulate the value of technology to the business. Maintain Windows and Linux Servers and support WAN/LAN infrastructure Understand messaging design principles and support exchange; Design/setup/maintain/monitor Servers and backup system Perform system recoveries. Maintain existing global Cisco infrastructure and enterprise architecture Work with IT management to plan and improve network design with growth and change of company, knowledge of firewalls, interoperability of network devices, and Internet connectivity is necessary. Ability to configure QOS to support IP video conferencing. Purchase and configure new Cisco equipment and rebuild routes and configurations to reflect changes. Maintain circuit availability for all sites, maintain and periodically test redundant failover, and monitor all network devices from switches/routers to Servers Maintain monitoring tools and ensure all sites are up to date with monitoring information. Identify and mitigate security risks; work with management to improve technologies; must stay on top of latest issues and technologies. Ability to implement and maintain remote services. Troubleshoot and resolve system issues Constantly work to improve existing system designs and bring new technology ideas to the table. Ability to identify need for and write documentation. This position liaises closely with Enterprise Applications and BDM and Infrastructure teams to support the Oracle applications infrastructure This position works closely with the scientific areas to support Unix based SGI systems and computational chemistry Linux cluster. Must be proactive and identify most efficient solutions for business owners, explain and assist in implementation of these solutions; May perform hardware repair, monitors systems proactively and responds to alerts. Position works closely with desktop support representatives to provide technical guidance. Person in this position is required to stay on top of latest issues and technologies, works closely with IT manager to make sure suggestions and ideas are aligned with the business. Must pitch in when necessary to assist with help desk calls and video conference setups. This position is second level of backup to desktop support. Must enter end user requests into the Magic ticket system. Education/Experience Required: Solid background designing, troubleshooting, and administering both Windows and Linux servers. Ability to create and maintain documentation; results oriented individual with the ability to clearly communicate and collaborate on projects. Project management experience a plus. 5-7 years experience in the systems field, with 3-5 implementing and maintaining servers. Ability to support all levels of the business contributes to the success of required Back End engineering. Windows and Cisco certified engineer preferred. Must understand and adhere to validation requirements, including change control. Candidates need to be local and no third party candidates.
