Senior Database Administrator in New York, NY

. Responsible for administration of all the company's databases including database installations, backups, upgrades; performance tuning, monitoring results of cron jobs, scripting/automation of recurring tasks, day-to- day database resource management and monitoring.
. Work with Senior Developers, Network Administrator, Windows/NT administrators and Unix administrators to maintain day-to-day operations and resolve production issues.
. Work under direction from IT Operations Manager in the determination of deadlines & priorities for database maintenance tasks and infrastructure projects.
. Work with Microsoft System Engineers on 'VERITAS Netbackup' or 'Bakbone' configuration and administration.
. Perform start of the day system verification procedures to validate database state and availability, confirm successful execution of nightly batch processes and cron jobs, document instances of database and batch process failures in the ticketing system and resolve them expeditiously.
. Implement system alerts to notify IT Management of database unavailability.
. Perform day-to-day database administration tasks such as monitoring of rollback segments, buffer cache, shared pool size, library of cache miss ratio, size of re-do logs, database processes; rebuilding and reorganizing indexes, monitoring disk space usage and archival, backup status, and other periodic maintenance tasks.
. Perform monthly and quarterly SOX reviews including documenting results of such reviews.
. Provide expertise in areas of Database Administration and backup assistance.
. Identify tools and techniques within the Oracle Application in designing the solutions.
. Play pro-active user-support role in all deployed systems.
. Perform periodic maintenance tasks, generate reports and maintain documentation related to database administration as required per SOX guidelines.
. Maintain all United Media databases to insure system reliability, uptime and performance.
. Provide technical expertise in application & industry standards.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

. Minimum of 7 years experience with Oracle database administration in a business environment including installing, upgrading and restoring/recovering databases.
. 4-5 years Oracle experience with at least three full life cycle Oracle 11i implementation/upgrade project completion in an Application DBA role.
. 4-5 years experience with Oracle Applications 11i and Oracle Database versions 8.17, 9i, 10G in UNIX environment (Sun Solaris) is a must.
. Experience as Oracle Applications DBA which encompasses installing, upgrading, and supporting Oracle Applications software and the associated Oracle Technology stack in a multi-tier environment including: database server, applications server, web server, concurrent processing server, reports server, forms server, admin server, and discoverer server environment.
. Hands-on experience with Oracle Application and Database experience, which includes patching, upgrades, and admin utilities console.
. Knowledge in underlying Oracle Applications database architecture - schemas/products, database objects, file system structure, tables, views, packages, procedures, functions, triggers, sequences, indexes, and constraints is a must.
. Experience with configuration, load balancing, backup/recovery, sizing and space management, PL/SQL tuning, diagnostics, and proficient with the use of Oracle's Enterprise Manager tool.
. Excellent trouble shooting abilities to identify root cause of production issues and resolve them quickly to maintain high availability. Experience opening, managing, and resolving Oracle TAR's is a must.
. Experience with installation of portal 10G and the Application Server 10G is a strong plus.
. Experience with designing & building database schema and specific application business process model to meet the business requirements.
. Experience with Enterprise Back-up systems, different database back-up mechanisms/methodologies and Enterprise Storage solutions e.g. SAN, NAS required.
. Experience in a SOX environment strongly preferred.
. Demonstrated ability to create a robust implementation plan for a database related projects.
. BS in engineering or computer science or equivalent work experience required, MS a plus.
. Oracle database Admin certification preferred.
. This person must be extremely hands-on as he/she will be the "go to" person for problems.
. Excellent communication skills.
. Strong interpersonal, communication, and client-facing skills.
. Ability to manage stress well under difficult situations and when dealing with production issues and project deadlines.
