Job Overview



Our client, a dynamicglobal media firm, based in midtown Manhattan, is looking for a Global Data Architect, who will be part of the Global Applications Enterprise Architecture team. This position will be responsible for the design, creation, and governance of first corporate-wide Data Model. The Data Architect will work with Business Sponsors and Function Owners as well as the Global Application Project Management, Business Analysis and Development Teams to gather requirements and consult with development teams throughout the organization. The Data Architect is also accountable for designing reusable data architecture guidelines, assets and standards to support solution development, as well as consulting with the business and application project teams on how to best leverage these assets and standards.



JOB RESPONSIBILITIES



. Design, create and maintain Subject Area Model and Conceptual Data Model to support high-level understanding of the enterprise and major solutions

. Work directly with Business Analysts and Developers to implement data aggregation and consolidation data warehouses/marts and supporting services based on a Global Data Model.

. Specify Data Modeling tools that reflect usage requirements gathered throughout the organization

. Draft and promote a EIM Strategy focused initially on data aggregation and over time on application functional gap closure

. Participate as a Solution Architect for high priority, information intensive projects

. Define and develop standards, assets and frameworks required to support business strategy

. Serve as point of escalation, review and approval for key issues related to data entity definition

. Serve as lead for Data Architecture governance, escalating to the Enterprise Architect as appropriate

. Ensure Data compliance standards are adhered to on all systems

. Provide Data Architecture expertise during Merger & Acquisition Due Diligence and Integration processes.

. Work to improve existing OLTP model, transaction cost reduction, and increase the overall data throughput

. Contribute substantially to the design and development of the data access DB layer supporting ODBC and other database connection architectures

. Provide recommendations on architectural changes and design enhancements to the infrastructure to improve reliably and performance, reduce cost, and anticipate Company growth and acquisitions

. Work closely with the Implementation and Operations Team to implement solutions that have been fully designed and tested

. Produce documentation of environment and operational processes

. Create / update policies, procedures, and documentation to adapt to new technologies and business requirements



JOB / EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS



While every effort will be made to respect the employee's privacy and personal time, the position will require the candidate to respond to critical situations after normal business hours or during weekends (Saturday or Sunday). A mobile phone will be provided for this purpose.



Must Have Strong Knowledge In/Of:



. Subject Matter Expert in data architecture discipline; concepts and best practices

. Understanding of data entity definition and governance

. Database design and lifecycle management

. Experience with the governance and management of message standards within Service Oriented Architecture

. Logical/physical data model design and implementation.

. Familiarity with data modeling techniques and best practices

. Key tool vendors in the data modeling space

. SQL tuning and Performance optimization techniques

. Principles of development and usage for stored procedures, triggers

. Information Access methods and patterns.

. Data Federation (Enterprise Information Architecture)

. Active Data warehouse concepts.

. Metadata, Data Quality, and Data retention concepts.

. ROLAP and MOLAP approach to implement Business Intelligence solution. Knowledge of Business Objects, Cognos, Brio, Microstrategy is a plus.

. Experience with industry standard data models such as SMEF, SMPTE, TV Anytime

. Understanding of the media industry (highly desirable but not essential).
Experience: In addition, candidate must possess the following:



. Overall experience in collecting business requirements

. Excellent interview and communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts to both business and technical resources

. Strong leadership and mentoring skills

. Understanding of development and project management processes

. Flexible schedule to accommodate for travel to other locations for meetings with Business and Project Teams

. Ability to test and introduce new utilities to help the environment

. Overall from 5 to 7 years of data architecture experience

. Able to multi-task and prioritize work for self and/or small team independently

. Able to resolve complex problems seeking guidance when necessary

. Be able to travel internationally and hold a valid passport



CERTIFICATION / EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Required:

. BS in (EE/CS) or equivalent
