Basic Function:
As part of M&T's Technology and Banking Operations the Database Administrator would be responsible for all activities related to the administration of a computerized database management system including day-to-day operational processes and procedures, first line of troubleshooting of database problems, database tuning and database development. responsible for the physical aspects of creating and maintaining databases in Oracle 9i/10g (running on Unix) or MS SQL Server for the Enterprise Database Services Team. The incumbent must be able to manager his/her own projects, and work independently without technical supervision. The incumbent must respond to information requests quickly and consistently.
Responsibilities:
Installs Database Software in the distributed server environment.
Effectively uses database utility, monitoring and tuning tools in the day to day management of the Enterprise Database Facility which hosts corporate databases for a wide variety of applications.
Creates new databases and performs upgrades for new or changed database applications
Ensures that database administration standards and procedures are followed for database design, security, backup and recovery.
Provides consulting support to application teams that use enterprise class databases.
Identifies and provides resolutions for basic to complex service-related problems and accurately documents outages, anomalies and fixes.
Works with Infrastructure personnel to install and test new versions of or patches to the Database Management System.
Keeps abreast of new database related technology and products.
Establishes lines of communication between developers and the Database Administration team and between the Database Administration team and the Technology Infrastructure support areas.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Computer Science or related discipline or 4+ years experience in Database Administration.
Requires thorough understanding of Database Management Systems
Strong Database Administration utilizing Oracle 9i or 10g Database Management System
Strong operating systems experience with AIX/Unix and Windows Server.
Excellent project management and time management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
System development lifecycle is a must
Ideal Qualifications:
Production database administration in MS SQL Server 2000 or DB2 for MVS a plus
Ability to interact with clients and vendors and maintain relationships
Application development is a plus
