CDI has an Immediate need for a Cognos Architect.
The Cognos Architect will be responsible for the design of the Cognos Architecture for BI application sitting on the Data Warehouse. This position will lead the definition of reporting architectures for the client's Data Warehouse. The Architect will take key technical design decisions in ensuring the creation and maintenance of a scalable and robust Cognos reporting architecture across all projects. The architect will also ensure that this architecture will support the growing reporting and data integration needs of the company.
This architect will also be responsible for evaluating and appropriately implementing data warehouse technology and best practices and recommends them for adoption when appropriate.
Key Responsibilities:
Interfaces and works with project teams and business staff to understand the business and functional requirements to architect an Enterprise Data Warehouse reporting platform
Building schema objects to support business process change or enhancements through projects. Setting child parents relationships. Building or changing hierarchy structure. Building new projects to support new reporting schemas. Working with Data Architect and the DBAs to architect a solution fitting database standards and tool compliance
Setting up user roles and preferences. Report development and modification. Metadata support. Integration with teams to support efforts at the database level and the reporting level. Support on upgrades. Monitoring of enterprise manager and system. Performance tuning.
Manage all aspects of the reporting architecture, including models, and Cognos components and framework
Coordinates with various business and technical groups whose support is needed to build or deploy data warehouse projects
Technical hands-on work
Collaborate with other cross-functional IT architects (e.g .the Data Warehouse team)
Establishes standards for data warehouse reporting technology, as well as design, development, implementation and maintenance processes
Set and enforce Cognos , BI and DW standards and architecture for all DW projects and ensure that the reporting requirements are adequately understood and documented
Deep knowledge of current Data warehouse Reporting, Data modeling and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) technologies and best practices
Deep knowledge of industry trends and best practices for architecting Enterprise Data Warehouses reporting systems and BI solutions
Expertise in understanding the architecture of Cognos etc.
Extensive experience in architecting Cognos solutions for large multi Terabyte Data Warehouses
Cognos report development experience
Experienced in performance tuning of Cognos applications.
Must Have Requirements:
6+ years of data warehouse experience lifecycles including the design and building of Cognos architectural models to support business reporting
Experience with data warehousing elements such as star schema, snowflake schema, cube design, ODS and Dimensional or Aggregative designs and others
Use of tools (Toad etc) to diagnose database performance issues, explain plans, create reporting index strategies, and improve database designs based on SQL execution
Able to lead business requirement definition activities and translate them into Cognos reporting objects
Able to write business and technical specifications. Able to facilitate and lead large group discussions.
Nice To have:
Ability to program in XML, VB, VB.Net, ASP.Net, and develop web services will be an asset
BS or BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or other technical area
Pharmaceutical experience
