The role of the Developer for Business applications is a hands-on role of supporting and implementing the company's business applications. Currently some of the custom applications are written in a combination of PowerBuilder and Oracle, some Java, and PeopleSoft Accounts Receivable and Billing modules. In the near future some of these applications will employ Oracle E-Business suite - Financials interfacing with other SOA applications developed using Oracle middleware technology. The Business Application Developer should have strong experience with PowerBuilder and Oracle development platforms and some experience with Oracle E-Business Suite Financials. Preference would be given to individuals who have some knowledge of Java. This person should be willing to learn certain functionality of PeopleSoft to be able to assist other members of the development team in troubleshooting application issues and supporting the financial applications. The business application developer would work under the supervision of Senior Developer - Business Applications and is expected to contribute substantially in architecting solutions for business applications.

Responsibilities

Business application developers at the company are expected to have both strong technical skills and a deep understanding of the business units supported by the applications they write. The business application developers should have the ability to formulate efficient design solutions for the development efforts assigned to them. The code produced by business application developers should be designed with appropriate modularity, well documented, and as reusable as possible. Business application developers are expected to use best practices for development as defined by the Senior Developer - Business Applications for development of applications including use of source code management, code reviews, implementation of operational monitoring features, rigorous testing and change management. Given their hands-on view of the applications, it is expected that business application developers will lead the way in suggesting how programs should be re-factored and streamlined. As new platforms and technologies are adopted by the company, it is expected that appropriate training will be provided to business application developers.

Key Skills
Business application developers are expected to have the following skills:

. 5+ years of IT development experience required where a minimum of 3 years should have been with developing core financial applications.
. Hands-on ability to write programs in the technology used to implement applications at United Media including PowerBuilder and Oracle.
. 3+ years of hands-on experience with PowerBuilder and Oracle programming required including a detailed understanding of PowerBuilder foundation classes, objects, data windows, pl/sql, oracle triggers, functions, procedures, alerts, forms and reports is required. Experience with PowerBuilder v9 is mandatory.
. 2+ years of hands-on experience with configuring, deploying and/or supporting Oracle EBS - Financials required. Preference will be given to candidates who know GL, AR, AP and cash management modules.
. Preference will be given to candidates with 2+ years of experience with Java and object oriented programming, including working knowledge of core libraries, design patterns, JSP and servlets OR candidates having experience with PeopleSoft Accounts Receivable and Billing modules.
. Knowledge of best practices for software development and experience with development methodologies required. Preference will be given to candidates who have worked in an environment requiring Sarbanes Oxley compliance.
. Ability to provide valuable contribution during design sessions.
. Strong communication skills for interaction with business users and with other members of the technology staff.
. A Computer Science Bachelor's level college degree or equivalent preferred.
. A pro-active attitude toward assisting the development team and other members of the technology staff in anticipating problems and improving performance of the department.
