Job Responsibilities

Java Sofeware Engineer .The position is part of ESPN.com's New Media Video Products group in New York City. The Video Products group is responsible for innovation, development and support for all broadband video and iTV applications and services covered by ESPN.com. This engineer works closely with other Flash Developers, Software Engineers and Technical Producers to design, develop, test and implement new Flash-based video related applications, to develop new features and functionality in existing applications, and to support current systems.



Required Qualifications



  • Computer Science or other relevant degree, or work experience equivalent to formal qualification.

    * 2-4 years Java Programming experience required

  • Flash ActionScript Development experience desired.

  • 1+ years in developing rich media client-server applications in Flash

  • Understanding of multi-tier web architectures, and OO design patterns and concepts

  • Candidates must have demonstrated an ability to quickly learn a diverse scope of software projects requiring detailed analysis, creative and practical problem solving, and possess sound judgment.

  • Must demonstrate solid organization and communication skills.

  • Interests in sports and online video products required.



    SPECIFIC SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Strong knowledge of Flash Actionscript.

  • Knowledge of LoadVars and XML classes for sending and receiving data

  • Fluency in using event listeners, setInterval, and components (ScrollPane, List, etc)

  • Ability to develop and extend objects and components in Actionscript 2 (AS3 ideal)

  • Experience in creating Flash classes and building out Flash architectures

  • Experience working with Flash video assets (flv files)

  • Knowledge of AJAX is a plus

  • Knowledge of server side programming is a plus
