Title: Sr. Web Developer
The Walt Disney Internet Group (WDIG) and ABC Digital Media (DMG) are looking for a Senior Web Developer to join the ABC News team! Join a small, energetic, hard-working team in a leading role with growth opportunities throughout the Disney network.
This candidate will have hands-on responsibilities for the development, testing, and deployment of front-end software solutions supporting our ABC News content. Responsibilities:
collaborate with business stakeholders, program managers, designers and other developers to iteratively define, develop, test and implement new web-based functionality
coordinate with third-party vendors to integrate external components with our products
lead and collaborate with other designers and developers, share ideas and expertise
provide technical guidance, feedback, and oversight for all areas of front-end web development.
contribute to new processes for streamlining development and deployment as needed
conceptualize architectural frameworks
perform ongoing site maintenance and optimization
support editorial technical needs
provide documentation for new development and participate in team knowledge-sharing
You :
are a problem-solver, adept at code analysis and troubleshooting in a distributed web hosting platform.
understand, preach and practice good code architecture and design
are as good at reading code as you are at writing it
share your ideas and listen to other peoples’ as well
understand the fundamentals of software development, including best practices and OOD design patterns
have a strong understanding of and experience with handling cross-browser, front-end development issues
have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate technical issues to a diverse non-technical audience
manage your time effectively to meet multiple, tight deadlines.
Nuts & Bolts:
4 year college degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
5 or more years of web development experience including:
expertise in HTML,DHTML, CSS, AJAX, JavaScript
expertise in one of the following - ASP/JSP/PHP or a similar object-oriented server-side scripting language. Comfortable with learning a new language along these lines.
experience using libraries and frameworks like Ajax libraries in Javascript
experience working with content management systems, both building out objects and creating templates to leverage those objects
experience with XML and XSLT
experience working with art files
flexibility to work as a solo developer or in a team
willingness and ability to learn new tasks outside the your current range of skills
knowledge of standard software development process
knowledge and usage of industry standard web practices wherever possible
Extra Points:
CS degree or other development-related degree
experience with JSP and Java-based systems
experience with XQuery and/or XSL
experience with Flash/Actionscript
experience mentoring other team members
you dig news and/or media in general and are interested in helping shape its future
you are actively engaged and interested in discovering new technologies and approaches to online content
you have a keen interest in web2.0 websites, communities, blogging, and media sites
