Job Title: Director, Technology
Job Summary

The Director, Technology is one of the most senior technical roles within Sapient, blending delivery, operations, people management and growth, and business development.

The Director, Technology has high-level responsibility for understanding, planning, and leading the delivery and maintenance of enterprise solutions for clients in a broad range of industries including Media, Financial Services and CPG. This individual should assume the role of the client’s trusted advisor on technology-related topics including technology strategy. The Director will be adept at framing the business value coming from technology related initiatives and articulating how this value enables the client to meet their business goals and objectives.

The Director will provide technical vision and leadership to internal and client teams involved in building and integrating applications/systems. The Director will demonstrate a broad technical knowledge and flexible attitude in order to provide best of breed solutions for Sapient’s clients using both custom built and commercial packages.

The Director will work with the Client Executive and Service Delivery Leads to ensure that client expectations regarding technology are set and met appropriately. They will also act as a coach, guide and mentor to other team members and be responsible for the growth of those on their team.



Key Responsibilities include:

Lead teams in the business and technical design phases of a project
Creating complex custom software solutions or modifying package solutions.


Works with the client and delivery teams and takes on a “hands-on” approach to identify and suggest approaches to resolve any technical issues as they arise. Proactively suggests tools and best practices to prevent such issues.
Identifies the design vs. implementation tradeoffs with the tools being used. Translates the impact of design on scalability, performance, etc. into the project.
Drives high and mid-level planning exercises
Assesses risk and the impact on estimation efforts
Drive complex estimation efforts taking into account one or more projects and effectively communicate risks and dependencies to the client
Provide sales and BD support by providing technical subject matter expertise as it pertains to RFPs, presale and closing.
Manages teams of 30 – 60 people through the full life-cycle of the project
Effectively manage globally distributed teams
Coaching & mentoring of team members
Communicates difficult scenarios to the client. Facilitates workshops and meetings with the client

Participates in extending knowledge of their area of specialization within Sapient

Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree required. Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
12 plus years of experience in enterprise architecture, systems integration, package implementation, and/or interactive design, and architecture experience
Experience in a consulting firm highly desired
Expertise within custom application design and development using java/j2ee
Experience in full lifecycle of technical implementation including infrastructure and hosted solutions
Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage multi-track Sapient teams
Experience in proposal development, pre sale support and closing.
Experience in running teams of 30+ people in a highly matrixed and globally distributed environment
Experience with Agile development methodology or similar rapid iterative approaches
Proven mentoring and coaching abilities to ensure effective growth plans of members of Sapient teams;
Ability to drive complex estimates that take one or more projects into account and to effectively communicate risks and dependencies to clients
Frequent overnight travel may be required
