Our client, a world leading professional organization publishing science related journals. Having been in existence for close to 100 years, the organization offers a tremendously established and stable environment with tremendous growth potential. In this role, the web developer will design and maintain user interfaces for publication web sites, digital libraries and eCommerce sites for an online hosting platform. Lead the design, development, and implementation of dynamic and static user-centered web interfaces. Program front-end JSPs and XHTML using Java, CSS, and other languages, and oversee their integration with platform APIs, middleware, and back-end databases. Integrate customer branding and create graphical designs and navigation for publications they host. Research, develop, and communicate the long-term vision for the user experience. Analyze, test and set online services coding practices based on W3C standards for HTML and XHTML compliance and accessibility, and lead regular code reviews. Perform unit and integration testing before hand-off to operational teams prior to release
Experience: QUALIFICATIONS: B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent work experience. A minimum of three (3) years experience with developing advanced GUIs and navigational systems for standards- compliant web-based online services, including strong aptitude in JSP (or similar) scripting, JavaScript, Cascading Style Sheets table-less layouts, and multimedia file creation and manipulation. Strong software fluency with respect to designing graphical elements for web deployment, especially Adobe Photoshop, associated plug-ins, and specialized design software. Knowledge of relevant W3C standards and the requirements for building valid cross-browser semantic markup. Knowledge of Velocity templates a plus. Working knowledge of UNIX systems and UNIX file structure and shell commands desirable. Excellent interpersonal skills required to effectively communicate with internal staff and external contacts. Must be organized and detail-oriented in terms of maintaining project-status documentation, project-history information, and contributing updates to project schedules.
