Position Overview:

The Application Manager is responsible for defining the system requirements, technical specification and completing the required PMO documentation for all approved projects or service requests. The Manager may be assigned as project lead on major systems development projects. In that role, the Manager is responsible for directing the project's resources; developing the project plan; and ensuring that the project is completed on time, within budget, and with acceptable quality. The Manager also plays a primary role interfacing and coordinating with customers and IS management. The Manager is also responsible for managing the production support and on-going maintenance for existing systems.

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

Understand the client’s business processes and practices.
Gather, analyze and document the functional requirements from the client community.
Oversee or possibly facilitate, the methods for gathering functional requirements, whether it be through formal interviews, focus group sessions, or other means to gather requirements.
Assist management in prioritizing new development projects, enhancement projects for existing systems, and service requests.
Assess the feasibility of projects and service requests and recommend alternative systems approaches and solutions whenever possible.
Supervise and guides the detailed design and development activities.
Work closely with project team and insure that documentation is complete, up-to-date, maintained and in accordance with departmental standards.
Prepare regular project status reports.
Formalize project activities and guides a project acceptance as a production system.
Fulfill departmental requirements by providing work coverage and administrative notification during periods of personnel illness, vacation or training.
Adhere to department Production Control procedures and standards.
Perform the duties of a Senior Analyst as required.
Keep abreast of technology utilized within the department, maintaining skills both to manage programmers and to provide support.
Be able to switch gears as business requirements dictate.

People Management:

Estimates staff resource needs.
Select and schedule appropriate training for staff as necessary.
Approve and coordinate vacation time for staff.
Communicate priorities and expectations clearly to staff.
Plans team member work assignments and schedules, and guides and monitors work performance.
Assists in the preparation of associate performance assessments and AMIP as required by Human Resources.
Makes recommendations regarding staffing requirements and employee discipline, but does not have the authority to execute decisions in these areas independently.
Meets regularly and communicates effectively with direct reports and supervisor and alerts management to potential risks.
Develops and maintains productive working relationships with project sponsors, key internal clients and other IS resources.

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably a BS or BA in Computer Science or Business.
At least two years of project management experience in applications or systems programming including staff supervision.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience in understanding business requirements and issues, facilitating meetings and making effective oral presentations.
Ability to work well with people with varying technical abilities.
At least two years of Retail industry experience.
