Job Description
Position Title: Database Administrator
Summary
. Responsible for monitoring and maintenance of databases that directly impact the revenue generation of the firm.
. Oversee & maintain database implementation such as database programming, triggers, retrieving data, managing of indexes, system database & tables
. Monitor daily activities of servers
. Optimize & maintain database performance through scheduled upgrades, service pack installations, and performance tuning
. Provide 7/24 administration, production support and deployment activities as required to maintain corporate databases
. Create Storage Units/Objects: Devices, Databases, Tables, Views, Indexes, and Stored Procedures. Estimate size of storage units
. Handle issues of warm standby, replication & Stored procedures
. Provide & implement disaster recovery plans
. Administer database privileges and security within corporate standard operating procedures
. May provide input for performance appraisals
Education
BS/MS in Computer Science or Related Computer Field
Required Technical Skills
5 years of IT experience in Database Administration, System Administration and Programming in RDBMS/MS-SQL Server
Expert in MS SQL-Server (MS SQL 2000,2005)
Proficient in transact SQL
Full exposure to Advanced MS SQL Server management techniques
Data modeling experience required
SSIS experience a plus
MICROSOFT CERTIFIED TRAINING in SQL Server Database Administrator and Design
Knowledge in monitoring and communications software
Strong analytics and trouble-shooting skills
Communication and General Skills
Strong interpersonal skills to interact with Project Managers, Network Administrators, Software/Quality Engineers and internal customers
Ability to work independently and/or within a structured team
Commitment to quality and attention to detail is critical
Strong organizational, time management skills required in order to manage/work on multiple assignments concurrently under tight deadlines
7/24 availability and on-call rotation is a requirement of this position
Required: 24 X &, on-call rottion, 1 week, once per month. Primarily there are pages from the servers, not from people. There is some work when on call. But, it's not a lot.
SSIS, DTS or SQL Clustering are all pluses.
