The Network Engineering position will provide for a challenging technical, process, tools and operational environments based upon a wide variety of network architectures and technologies. Job Purpose:
This position will work with Network Operations team in addition to other departments customer and represented company departments to develop, administer and support all networking elements of our data and Internet products under the care of the represented company at a Fortune 50 company. This position will have a direct impact on the customers perception of the quality and value of our data and Internet products, as well as the operational and financial goals of the company.
Essential Functions:
- Provide network administration as a member of the Network Engineering team. (40%)
- Responsible for assisting in the implementation of network designs that deliver performance, reliability and scalability. (25%)
- Represent Network Engineering on cross-functional product/project teams, in the development, launch and administration of data services. (20%)
- Work with Network Planning to manage growth plans by monitoring network performance and identifying capacity needs. (10%)
- Responsible for cross-training other members of the Network Engineering team to broaden the knowledge base within the team. (5%)
Education:
- Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Experience / Background:
- 3 or more years in related data networking fields
Previous Job Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years hands-on experience in engineering and administering IP networks
- Previous network design experience a plus.
- Previous duties as Team Leader a plus.
- Experience with TCP/IP platforms involving dynamic routing protocols like EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP and their related control protocols.
- Experience with Telco provisioning processes a plus.
- Experience using network analysis, management and performance monitoring tools to evaluate product and service behaviors.
- Experience with the configuration and administration of both Hardware and Software based Firewalls.
- Experience with Visio creating detailed network diagrams
- Experience in IPSEC and VPN required.
- Experience with Tachyon satellite networking a plus.
Certifications:
- Cisco Certifications such as CCNA, CCDA, CCNP or CCIE required
Special Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- In depth knowledge of TCP/IP
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP enhancements such as multi-cast, QOS techniques, bandwidth and path reservation techniques.
- Working knowledge of the configuration and maintenance of routers, access points, and switches.
- Working knowledge of DS3, T1, OC3, ISDN, Frame Relay, SONET, ATM, and DSL and other bandwidth link specifications and protocols.
- Working knowledge of heterogeneous networking components along with knowledge of routing/ switching involving VLANs, ATM, Frame relay and optical carriers.
- Working knowledge of Tachyon satellite networking systems.
- Project Management experience a plus.
- Good customer contact skills.
