This an excellent opportunity for the right candidate looking to build a solid background in Web Developing. This position will include the Supervision of the application development functions within the Platform Development department including both in-house staff and 3rd party suppliers. Department responsibilities cover developing, integrating and supporting software for external and internal web based applications and back-end information systems. Tasks include programming, documentation, testing, controlled release and support of software consisting of application server applications, daemons, databases, CGI applications and middleware.
Key Tasks:
Line management of Platform developers including assignment and oversight of tasks through our task management software.
Ensure delivery of defined tasks to schedule, quality and budget.
Ensure compliance with all department standards, best practices, and architectural goals set by the Software Services division.
Oversee the application programming, including build and unit testing on new projects as well as troubleshooting and defect repair on currently deployed systems.
Working with technical colleagues both within the Platform Development and Software Services departments to follow strategic direction for development of both the platform and supporting systems laid out by Software Services.
Lead design sessions for the platform develop group as required to ensure that requirements can be met in adherence to the architecture policies.
Ensure documentation of all work artifacts, including code comments, user manuals and deployment notes.
Supply application level support on all website activity, includes support of all software related to delivering customer accessible services.
Professional and Personal Requirements Skills:
Strong procedural and object oriented programming experience. Thorough knowledge of website construction and/or client-server application development in JAVA is required. Must have a strong familiarity with relational databases especially client/server SQL in MSSQL, MySQL and Oracle. Familiar with software engineering concepts, including source code control, build systems, and software deployment. Knowledge of at least one scripting language strongly preferred. The successful candidate will have a Bachelors degree in Computer Science plus at least 4 years of professional experience with the following technologies: Java, OOP programming, XML, XSLT, MySQL, SQL Server, HTML, Linux, Subversion (Knowledge of Perl, Python or Ruby also preferable).
Experience:
Experience with developing software for customer facing website applications. Minimum of 3 years professional programming experience. Some line management experience preferable.
