Looking for minimum of 5 years experience. Must be open to travel, two main locations will be datacenters in St Louis and Hartland, WI.

Reviews, evaluates, designs, SAN and NAS storage solutions. Identifies storage requirements and documents final design to be delivered to Storage I&S. Demonstrates the ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical stake holders. Has an in-depth knowledge of SAN and NAS design principles. Experience with EMC, Netapp, CISCO Fibre Channel switches required with TSM backup and SRDF replication desirable. Working knowledge of productivity/documentation tools such as Excel, Visio, etc. At least 6 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Provides consultation on complex projects and is considered to be the top level contributor/specialist. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Reports to Head of Storage Design.

Description: This design engineer's role is to design SAN and NAS storage solutions based on Business requirements for capacity, performance, replication(DR), and backup. This infrastructure and standards used in the solution require a knowledge of EMC, Network Appliance, and IBM TSM, and CISCO FC switches.

Responsibilities:
Work with stakeholders of customer drive projects to determine overall storage requirements for both primary storage and data protection.
Provide the storage implementation group with a detailed design describing primary storage needs and backup data storage retention needs of each project which adhere storage best practices.

Work closely with Primary Storage and Data Protection Architects on documenting and testing new storage technologies. As well as working with these individuals to resolve exceptions to existing standards as they arise.

Provide authoritative knowledge on storage standards and advise and counsel project teams on the relative importance of these issues.

Position Requirements:
- Excellent knowledge of SAN, NAS, DAS, RAID, SCSI, and Fibre Channel technologies in an EMC/Netapp and Veritas environment. This includes SRDF, Timefinder, ECC, Workload Analyizer, Optimizer, etc, as well as other SANS/NAS tools.

- In-depth understanding of storage architecture design techniques, theories, principles, and practices.

- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and provide regular status.

- Solid experience with developing backup and restore procedures with tape/disk drive technologies, either Netbackup or TSM prefered.

- Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring, and supporting storage servers and software.

- Experience working with Veritas Clustering and Volume Manager as they pertain to storage.

- Familiar with EMC, Netapp, Brocade and Cisco SAN/NAS components.

- Solid storage related skills in Unix and Windows operating systems, VMWare a plus..

- Project management/project lifecycle experience.

- Storage performance analysis a plus.

- Good written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.

- Strong technical documentation skills.

- Ability to conduct research into storage issues, standards, and products.

- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

- Highly self motivated and directed.

- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
