This position Requires up to 50% Travel
We have an opening for an OS manager to support mission critical business applications which consist of 30+ Sun Solaris servers supporting an enterprise ERP environment and 450+ remote Red Hat Linux servers.
„« Develop and document clear, comprehensive and integrated technical Unix/Linux enterprise architectures, standards, policies, configurations and implementations which support both current and strategic environments and initiatives and industry best practices;
„« Evaluate and implement systems management tools;
„« Develop group policy automation for policy enforcement; conducts scanning and event correlation across all enterprise Unix/Linux environments utilizing logs and Systems Management tools;
„« Review and recommend Unix/Linux architectures, designs and configures, backups and restores all Infrastructure subsystem related changes and implementations;
„« Identify and analyze technical and/or functional Nth Level problems of high complexity;
„« Oversee the OS Engineering and implement best practices throughout the Unix/Linux infrastructure environment including proactive monitoring, security/integrity software patching, release upgrades, documentation via established incident and change management processes, backups, disaster recovery, security aimed at improving availability, scalability and performance;
„« Ongoing presentations, education and knowledge transfer to applicable IT staff such as Help Desk, Server and Desk Top support groups and appropriate review prior to planned changes
Experience: Develop clear, comprehensive OS and HW architectures which support current and future directions; makes recommendations to improve process efficiency and effectiveness; reviews major architectural designs standards and configurations to ensure consistency, maintainability and flexibility with respect to overall system, technical and product architectures;
„« Act as an architectural and migration planning consultant to VP of Infrastructure; initiates strategic partnerships between vendors, business partners and IT;
„« Assists in defining the Unix/Linux infrastructure platform direction, and recommends product and architectural standards;
„« Oversee Development and implementation of complex enterprise management & monitoring platforms;
„« Perform Nth level Unix/Linux Infrastructure engineering, implementation and problem determination of high complexity enterprise environments minimizing business impact and maximizing availability;
„« Develops systems testing strategies, plans, cases and conditions; monitors testing efforts; tests highly complex operating environments systems in compliance with testing standards.
„« Conduct ongoing platform specific audit compliance and vulnerability assessments;
„« Accountable for hardware and/or software research, evaluation and recommendations of major scope;
„« Proactively Identifies potential service level problems before they occur and implements solutions;
„« Perform employee performance appraisals; development plans, and other associated management functions;
„« Provides supervision, motivation, direction and assistance to the Unix/Linux System Admin group;
„« Review workload and staffing requirements, make recommendations regarding employment, promotions, salary adjustments, and termination. Perform employee counseling and work performance evaluation;
„« Plans team member work assignments and schedules, and monitors work performance;
„« Fulfills departmental requirements in terms of providing work coverage and administrative notification during period of personnel illness, vacation or education;
„« Monitors and ensures compliances established policies and processes such as problem and change management;
„« Depicts highly complex ideas, issues and designs to varied audiences; communicates project objectives, scope, schedule and financial/budget and direction across project teams;
„« Designs, installs, configures and supports Unix/Linux systems and supporting software, including maintaining OS and DB currency and patching;
„« A detailed understanding and expertise with building and maintaining high-quality automation infrastructure;
„« Designs daily backups, restores and disaster recovery documentation.
Background:
„« Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience.
„« Strong Managerial skills including a minimum of five years of management in Large-scale Unix/Linux System Administrators/Engineers.
„« Must have 7+ plus years of overall experience in distributed enterprise Unix/Linux environments.
„« Strong documentation and communications and customer service skills, including the ability to manage a project independently and efficiently.
„« Self-motivated team player, able to set priorities and manage to deadlines.
„« Highly developed negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills.
„« Solid knowledge of SMTP, POP, IMAP, LDAP, TCP/IP, DNS.
„« Strong analytical and problem solving skills and be able to support a 24 x 7 environment.
„« Experience working with Veritas Netbackup, SAN products and solutions.
„« Strong knowledge of shell and Perl scripting and operating system utilities.
„« Knowledge of security tools, security practices as they pertain to Linux/Uinx and a track record of maintaining audit posture.
