ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:



May require shift work and/or modified working hours. May require working above ceilings in small spaces. Position requires substantial amount of driving time. Hazards - Potential exposure to electrical shock, burns, falls, battery acid, noise, dust, natural gas, and various chemicals. Some exposure to sun, mud, snow, rain, etc. Work responsibilities may often be in inclement weather and may require individual to be called out. Position must live within 30 miles of assign work area. This position is subject to random drug testing.







PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVE:



Maintain the Technical integrity of all Data (WANs/LANs/MANs, X.25 and Low speed data), voice (PBX, voice Mail, conference bridges, radio network - PTP, MAS, VHF, & UHF) networks, Video Conferencing, and IXC, LEC and CLEC problem resolution. Has a proficient degree of technical expertise in all area of infrastructure. Technical integrity will include installation, scheduled maintenance, and problem resolution of all telecommunications equipment and networks within a given geographical area. Position will act as lead person for various activities. Will provide technical assistance to less experience network personnel. Position will serve as a direct customer interface for the Information Technology Telecommunications process.



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



. Installs, maintains, repairs and operates infrastructure within the network, such as but not limited to:

. Local Area Network equipment

. Wide Area Networking equipment & circuits

. Telephone systems; PBX, hybrid key systems and non-KSU systems

. Voice processing and Computerized telephone technology

. Microwave radio equipment

. Data network equipment (X.25 packet/channel banks, various others)

. VHF/UHF radio equipment, Mobile Cellular Phones, and paging infrastructure

. Video teleconferencing equipment

. Fiber Optic cable systems

. UPS systems/AC and DC systems

. Other company electronic equipment as needed and/or when requested



. Functions as PBX and phone mail administrator.

. Works closely with telephone company and other company personnel to install and repair telephone circuits.

. Acts as coordinator for telecommunications capital projects.

. Assures that company microwave and radio system operates within the guidelines set forth by the Federal. Communications Commission.

. Providing first and second level client PC support.

. Provides electronic technical support for company engineering and other departments.

. Assists in the operation and repair of company SCADA and electronic measurement systems.

. Work with Central Network personnel configuring routers, hubs, and channel banks.

. Building infrastructure cabling systems, both fiber and metallic mediums.

. Understand and can explain OSI seven Layer model.

. Proficient in various network protocols.

. Possess basic computer skills and familiar with Microsoft Professional Office Suite products.

. Provides first level support for Server environment.

. Understands and complies with all OSHA and company safety regulations.



OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



. Position requires periodic attendance at training classes, seminars, and meetings, which pertain to the administrative and technical aspects of the job.

. Participates in training of new employees and other company personnel.

. Assists in design of company telecommunications systems.

. Fabricates telecommunications equipment as needed.

. Documents changes to system drawings and records.

. Takes an active role in continuous, professional and technical development.

. Orders and maintains spare parts and supplies.

. Provides point of contact for field operations personnel pertaining to telecommunications problems.



SELECTION CRITERIA:



. Must possess an FCC or NABER/PCIA/NARTE technician license, and should have at least two years of on- the -job experience with noted systems/equipment.

. Must possess an Associate degree in Electrical Engineering/Technology or equivalent

. Must be competent with the use of various types of electronic test equipment such as data network analyzers, cable integrity analyzers, TI Tester, BERT tester, analog and digital voltmeters, spectrum analyzers, frequency counters, power meters, telephone test sets, radio service monitors and oscilloscopes

. Must understand the operation, use and proper methods for testing of various telephone/data circuits to include; Point to point data/analog, X.25 PDN, DID, POTS, frame relay, TI and fractional T1, ISDN, E&M tie lines, radio analog.

. Must have a general understanding of various network protocols such as; X.25 packet, TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, PPP/SLIP and the OSI data layers.

. Must understand the principals of asynchronous/synchronous data communications

. Should have certification in some PBX administration and maintenance

. Must have a general knowledge and experience with proper installation of inter-office phone/LAN wiring and fiber optics.

. Individual should possess strong interpersonal and communications skills, in order to perform effectively in a highly technical environment

. Must have the skills to make component level repairs on most equipment being serviced

. Must have a Customer focus

. Possess basic computer skills and familiar with Microsoft Professional Office Suite products
